MISCREANT PREACHERS: Fraud in the Name of the Lord (#156 in a series)

The pastor, Nelson David Ochoa Vasquez, allegedly used his church, La Iglesia de Dios Jireh, to introduce multiple victims to Ismer Gonzalez, who in turn "falsely represented himself as an immigration attorney," according to arrest reports for both men. 

The reports state that Gonzalez claimed to be able to help parishioners get driver's licenses and work permits. But neither he nor Vasquez "provided the agreed upon services or refunded any of the victim's payments." 

Sixteen victims allegedly lost about $21,000 that they sent to the suspects in Zelle or cash payments, authorities discovered during their investigation called "Operation Stolen Dream."
