USA box office for the 22nd weekend 2017-2025

USA box office on the 22nd weekend of 2025 is up 120% compared to last year when "The Garfield Movie" was the top-grossing movie.

But it's down 27% compared to the peak year of 2023, when "The Little Mermaid" ruled the box office.

Variety, 6/1/2025

Rebecca Rubin reports:
As the summer season heats up, the box office is riding high with overall revenues up 25.5% from last year, though still 27% behind 2019, according to Comscore.
“The box office is riding a boomlet that started in April with ‘A Minecraft Movie,'” says David A. Gross of movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research. “Momentum has been steady, but it’s always fragile.”
Hopefully, an influx of blockbuster hopefuls — including “Jurassic World Rebirth,” Brad Pitt’s “F1,” Marvel’s “Fantastic Four: The First Steps” and “Superman” — have the strength to continue the boom times.
In other words, retreads to the rescue.
