About 70 people turned out Monday evening to view a sample design of the new community facility proposed by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Center for Architecture and Urban Planning Research.
The architecture students, who make up the nonprofit Community Design Solutions, worked with about 50 charrette participants in July to come up with the design.
"There's a theme that the library is not just for finding books, but adding functions with other nongovernment and government organizations," said James Lewis, CDS team leader, who visited modern libraries across the state. "It's becoming the social center or living room of most communities."
Marshfield Public Library Director Lori Belongia said there were a number of goals a new facility would achieve, including a segmented children's area, a dedicated young adult or teen area, meeting space, and areas for large print items and audio books, as well as space for archiving and local genealogy.
