It's the second time the idea has been squashed. Republican lawmakers writing the last state budget rejected requests from former conservative Supreme Court Chief Justice Annette Ziegler for an independent law enforcement agency to provide more security for the court in the wake of the murder of Juneau County Circuit Judge John Roemer in June 2022.

Yet they are eager to make sure everyone else is armed to the teeth.
