2012 City of Sheboygan Budget Proposal: Police, Fire Up; Public Works, Library, Transit Down
City seeks to close $1.3 million budget gap. (Sheboygan Press, 10/2/2011)
Excerpt: Funding for the Police Department and the Fire Department would both increase in 2012 under the proposed budget. Spending on police would increase 2.48 percent, or $293,156, to $12,175,335. Fire Department funding would increase 4.97 percent, or $375,202, to $7,926,080.
Cuts are proposed for Public Works, Mead Public Library and transit.
Funding for the Public Works Department would drop by $191,430, to $10,670.461, a 1.76 percent cut.
The tax levy supporting Mead Public Library would be $2,377,053, a $99,435 cut. [A 4% cut.] The tax levy supporting the transit utility fund, which helps run Shoreline Metro, would be cut by nearly 20 percent, to $511,559.
