There have been no reported human cases when contact with a wild mammal, nor human to human spreading of the virus. Tioga County Public Health says there is no current threat to the community.
Tioga County Public Health would like to remind residents to never handle wild animals due to a threat of possible rabies or fatal diseases. If a wild animal appears young or in need of assistance, contact the Department of Environmental Conservation at (315)-426-7400 for regular office hours or (877)-457-5680 after office hours. If an animal appears to be an immediate danger or poses a risk to humans or pets, maintain a safe distance and contact local law enforcement for assistance.
