City of Rhinelander Looking at a $200,000 Decrease in Revenue for 2012
City will have to make up for $200,000 revenue cut in 2012. (Rhinelander Daily News, 9/24/2011)
Excerpt: Rhinelander officials got their first look Thursday night at what kind of revenue they can expect next year, as they continue to work toward developing a final budget for 2012. Due to cuts in state shared revenue and state transportation aid, projections have the city receiving about $160,000 less revenue next year than what is expected to come in by the end of 2011. The projections are over $200,000 less than what was initially budgeted for in 2011.
Finance Director Julie Ostrander told officials that the numbers they were looking at were with property taxes calculated at the same value as the current year. Ostrander said the new state laws on the levy limit have created some confusion as to how much Rhinelander can increase its levy if that's a direction officials do indeed decide to go in.
"They (the state) changed the whole form (for calculating the levy limit)," Ostrander said. "We have to figure out what our capacity is if we want to use it."
