As reported by Iowa's News Now staff:
The Iowa Farmers Union said it hosted the session to update its members on the topic, since it can stir fear and uncertainty in communities.
"We know that Latino immigrants are such a crucial part of Iowa's agriculture workforce, whether that be in meatpacking, or seed companies, or dairy farms, or pork operations," IFU President Aaron Lehman said. "The Farmers Union has advocated for some common sense immigration reform that values agriculture workers."
Henry said it can be hard to identify ICE agents because they often drive unmarked vehicles and wear gear that says "police." He said if ICE arrives on farms, they can't legally enter without a warrant signed by a judge. He encouraged farmers to get educated, since he said more ICE presence could happen locally in the future.
