Republicans who control the majority in both the Assembly and the Senate haven't voted to codify rules governing how state officials handle teen inmates, following the results of a lawsuit years ago. If they don't decide to take action before the end of the year, the Department of Corrections could put the rule into effect itself.
Earlier this year, Republicans also delayed funding to hire additional employees at the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center before eventually approving it.
Could it have something to do with the fact that most of the 'commitmnts' at Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake are Black youth?.
