Johnson, 37, was arraigned Sunday, Sept. 15, before 53rd District Court Judge Daniel Bain on charges of surveilling an unclothed person, a felony; destroying evidence; and using a computer to commit a crime.
A church employee discovered the camera in a bathroom used by church staff and volunteers, according to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. The bathroom is not readily accessible to the public, police said.
Johnson told police he had placed the camera in the church bathroom and had done so intermittently for the past two years to target specific people known to use that bathroom, the sheriff’s office said.
