U.S. 40 Cross Section of the United States of America (Chapter 24: Highway and Tree)

That was then (1953).

Intro to chapter 24:
The picture taken eastward from a point about a mile east from West Jefferson, Ohio, [population in 1953 around 1,900; today 4,100] shows U.S. 40 following the line of the old National Road.  A heavy rainstorm has just passed over, and the truck is throwing a spray of water.
[snip]
Most interesting and pleasing is the careful protection of a fione sycaamore tree
This is now.  About a mile east of West Jefferson.  No sign of a sycamore tree and stone fence in this area.

Google Maps

West Jefferson is located 18 miles west of Columbus.
