40 years of Gallup polls show that a substantial majority of American think that abortion should be legal. 

According to Gallup polling, the number of American adults identifying as 'pro-choice' has increased 9 percentage points since 2012.  (Perhaps recent poll numbers help to explain the current Republican assault on Planned Parenthood.)
