Mike, you really think that's going to resonate with a president who appointed anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as head of HHS?

Wild birds are considered to be the main source for spreading the disease. In Iowa, like the 15 other states where HPAI has been detected in dairy cattle, strict biosecurity protocols are in place.
Sec. Mike Naig, Iowa Department of Agriculture: “Is it now the time to ask the questions that maybe we didn't have to ask before? Vaccine being one of those next level biosecurity investment and research. [emphasis added]
You know, those are the types of things that I'm anxious to hear from USDA.

Bird flu wipes out CAFO operation of 26,730 turkeys in Iowa

Headline:  Des Moines Register, 2/13/2025

The state said a highly pathogenic avian influenza infection was detected in a turkey operation with about 26,730 birds in Buena Vista County. Flocks with infections are destroyed to prevent the spread of the disease, which is deadly to domestic birds. The virus is spread primarily through wild birds, often during migration. Earlier this month, the state said about 240,000 laying hens were infected in O’Brien County in northwest Iowa. And a domestic flock with 40 birds in eastern Iowa was infected in January.
