The population of Lincoln County grew steadily from 1880 until 1920. For the next 40 years, its population remained relatively flat. Between 1960 and 2000, it grew by 33%, a trend that has since been reversed. Lincoln County has lost an estimated 5.5% of its population of the 2000 federal census.
As of July 1, 2014, 19.8% of Lincoln County's population is 65 and over compared to a state average of 15.2%. Its 0-to-4 demographic is 4.5% compared to Wisconsin's 5.9%.
By 2030, Lincoln County's senior population is projected to be significantly above the state average.
And the schoolage population is projected to decrease by 2.5% between 2010 and 2030.
