Expansion Plans for Portage Public Library Continue to Develop
Idea for library adds large children’s area. (Portage Daily Register, 2/8/2011)
Excerpt: A children's entrance, a family porch, a drive-up book drop, self-checkout and a flexible technology room suitable for teleconferencing were some of the possibilities for an expanded Portage Public Library that an architect put before library board members during their monthly meeting Tuesday.
The board, which has considered pursuing an expansion of the 253 W. Edgewater St. building, hired Michael Bahr of Plunkett-Raysich Architects last year to conduct preliminary design work on the idea. The project, if pursued, could add as much as 6,000 square feet of space to the building and cost as much as $1 million. The earliest year of construction would be 2012.
Library Director Shannon Stiller Schultz asked Bahr to give an update to the board members about the developing plans.
Bahr emphasized that the plans were not fixed.
