Books are still being checked out the old-fashioned way, but the hum comes from all the computers in use — whether they’re the in-house hardwired ones or private laptops scattered about, drawing on free access to wireless. It’s the bank of hardwired computers provided by each library that is taking its toll on resources, and area libraries are looking for ways to keep up with the burgeoning demand.
