Contrary to popular belief, Wisconsin author Jerry Apps does not expound on the "good old days."

"There wasn't all that much good about them," he maintains, with a chuckle.

In his book "Living a Country Year," this year's choice for the annual community read-along known as "
Fond du Lac Reads," Apps brings to life the hardships people faced as well as the joyous moments that defined 1940s rural Wisconsin.
