The U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) at a commercial table egg layer farm in Aurora, South Dakota, on April 30.
It is unknown whether the 700,000 birds impacted have been depopulated yet.
This is the second commercial flock in South Dakota to be hit by HPAI this year. The first was a turkey flock in Beadle County on April 8 that affected 33,400 birds.
The last HPAI case at a layer farm in South Dakota was in Rice County in December 2023; 800,000 birds were impacted.
