Matt spent most of the 1st half of the 20th century bouncing around the lower half of the baby names chart.  His quick rise in popularity was fueled by the popularity of "Gunsmoke", which debuted on the radio in 1952 and on television in 1955.  The lead character's name was Matt Dillon.  Matt spent 14 years (1958-1971) in the top 300, peaking at #254 in 1963.
