Throughout the leisure portion of our Sunday afternoon at Indian Lake, I was reminded of a Tuscany day trip that JoAnna, Eddie, and I took during our visit to Italy in 2014. San Gimignano is a medieval walled city, whose towers loom at a distance on a rolling green horizon. The Dane County silos seen on the horizon is not nearly as spectacular a view, but it still brought to mind very fond memories of the type of travel adventure that we hope someday can be experienced again.

With coronavirus cases continuing to increase, I decided it was time to declutter my graphs. The numbers were becoming increasingly illegible, squished together like sardines. The week-by-week approach gives a clearer picture of how a particular state is progressing. Or not.
With the spike in cases moving from urban to rural areas, I decided to create graphs for two states whose numbers have increased dramatically during the past week: Minnesota (+85%) and Nebraska (+91%).
Just two weeks ago, Minnesota had half the number of cases of Wisconsin. Yesterday, they leapfrogged over us, due to outbreaks in meatpacking plants and nursing homes. Grand Island is Nebraska’s hot spot. The mayor prohibited the closing of a JBS meatpacking plants – the same company that wreaking havoc in Green Bay and elsewhere – and the decision blew up in his face.
