Melvin had a very respectable run during the first half of the 20th century, spending 55 years in the top 100 and peaking at #47 in 1926.  He has experienced an increasingly sharp decline in popularity over the past 20 years.  (Not sure how the 2002 bump came about.  Might this movie had something to do with it?)
