3rd party votes:  17.4% in 1992, 11/3% in 1996. 3.9% in 2016
(George Wallace received 3.2% of the vote in 1968)

Ah, yes, the representative 'some'. Beware!

But Scranton is no longer the dying coal town of Biden's youth.  (Its population peaked in 1940 and since then has lost nearly 50% of its population.)

It is both more racially diverse.....(though not when compared to national statistics)....

...and prosperous.   (With a very likely underestimated 23.7% povery rate, more than twice the U.S. underestimated average.  Not to mention a 11.5% unemployment rate in August 2020, 3 percentage points higher than the overal U.S. rate.  These numbers negate the use of the adjective 'prosperous'.)

% of population 25 and older with bachelor's degree:
  • 21.5% - Scranton
  • 27.7% - Pennsylvania
  • 30.9% - U.S.
% of population 65 and older:
  • 16.7% - Scranton
  • 18.7% - Pennsylvania
  • 16.0% - U.S.
% of population living in poverty:
  • 23.7% - Scranton
  • 12.0% - Pennsylvania
  • 10.5% - U.S. (pre-Covid and still dubious)
