Carl was an extremely steady performer during the 1st 4 decades of the 20th century, ranging between 23 (1903, 1913, 1916) and 30 from 1900 until 1939, and then remaining in the top 100 until 1979.  He has increasingly fallen out of favor since the 1990s.
