UW's Dictionary of American Regional English in financial peril. (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, 4/21/2013)
The research for this ambitious lexicographical project got underway in the early 1960s and resulted in 5 A-Z vocabulary volumes. The first volume was published in 1985, the fifth in 2012. A sixth volume containing maps, an index, questionnaire, and bibliography, among other information, was published earlier this year.
With funding drying up, it's now likely that we won't see a digital version, as announced in the Chronicle of Higher Education three months ago.
