Judge to Weigh In on Library Cards in Memphis Voter ID Skirmish
Judge wants explanation on Memphis library ID rules. (Memphis Commercial Appeal, 7/30/2012)
Excerpt: U.S. District Judge Aleta A. Trauger [and here] scheduled a hearing for 3 p.m. Tuesday on the city's second application for a preliminary injunction prohibiting state officials from blocking use of the library photo identification cards for voting purposes by registered voters. The Tennessee legislature in 2011 enacted a photo ID requirement for voters, effective this year, and specified what federal and state government-issued photo IDs are valid. The law does not allow IDs issued by local governments and does not explicitly authorize library cards for voting purposes.
