Milwaukee Requests Proposals for New East Library Branch
City seeks development proposals for East Library. (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, 7/11/2011)
Excerpt: Milwaukee's East Library could be redeveloped to include a new library branch, and additional commercial or residential uses, under a request for proposals issued Monday by city officials.
The Milwaukee Public Library and Department of City Development issued the request for the library's current site at 1910 E. North Ave.
The request is seeking proposals from development firms to buy the site, build a new library on the street level and create other uses on the new building's upper floors. The current one-story, 13,800-square-foot library opened in 1968 and is obsolete.
This would mark the second time a library branch has been redeveloped with additional uses.
