Excerpt: Set to open June 29, the new Fitchburg building has many residents eager with anticipation.

“We’ve been waiting for it,” said Diane Hall, who’s lived in Fitchburg for five years and spent part of an April afternoon touring the unfinished building with her two kids. “(My kids) said the first thing they’re going to do is ‘go to that kids’ section.’”

Places of their own
On the first floor of $14 million two-story facility is where the children’s and teen sections are, as well as a multipurpose story time room.

The sections are specifically designed to accommodate the interests of those two age groups.

The teen section, for example, is equipped with Wii and PlayStation video game consoles and has its own audio/visual section separate from the general catalog. Among the young adult book selections, the new library has stocked up on graphic novels, which are popular right now, Rawson noted.
