In February 2025, news reports revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump's new Secretary of State Marco Rubio was appointing Darren Beattie to a key post in the State Department. Beattie was formerly a speechwriter during the first Trump administration and will be appointed to the role of undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs. 

After news of his hiring spread, many social media users shared old posts from his X account, where he allegedly wrote that "competent white men must be in charge" for things to work.

Beattie did indeed make the above post in October 2024, as we found on his verified X profile. As such, we rate this a correct attribution.
