Published in 1984 in hardcover to great reviews. And this snippet from a Boston Magazine review by Lee Grove sums it up for me. Henderson has a real feel for the sad, ridiculous squalor in America, the tacky bars and beauty shops and motel swimming pools, the even cheaper dreams of the people who hang out at them. What Henderson does best, though, is transform the seedy into musical prose.
And guess what library still has the 1987 trade paperback edition? [Liz probably doesn't dare weed it. ;-) ]
