Wisconsin GOP continues its assault on higher education

HeadlineWisconsin State Journal, 10/18/2023
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, said the employment relations committee could eventually approve higher pay for UW workers. But he said it would require “the university to actually realize they are funded by the taxpayers. They are not an entity that gets to do whatever the heck they want, because they have their own ideological agenda that they are going to drive home whether people like it or not.”
Democrats condemned the move.
“That’s as dumb as it comes,” Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said. “These people deserve raises. It’s been passed by the Legislature and to have it being hijacked at the last minute by one person, that’s wrong, too.”
