Roy Graber reports:
The 2022-26 outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has led to another unfortunate milestone, as more than 1,000 commercial flocks in the United States have been lost to the virus.
That number – which includes both commercial poultry and commercial upland gamebird flocks – was reached on March 31 when the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 25,700 commercial turkey breeder hens in Edmunds County, South Dakota, and a flock of 5,900 commercial meat ducks in Elkhart County, Indiana.
