Roy Graber reports:
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the most recent flock infection was confirmed on March 25 in Elkhart County, Indiana. In that situation, 4,600 commercial meat ducks were affected.
That case brings the number of commercial poultry flocks in Indiana to be affected by HPAI in 2026 to 33.
Meanwhile, the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) reported that the presence of HPAI was detected in three more commercial meat duck flocks.
An email sent by BOAH over the weekend revealed that two of those flocks were in Elkhart County, and those flocks included 5,900 and 8,500 ducks. The other case was in LaGrange County, where 5,250 meat ducks were involved.
According to BOAH, each of those premises have been quarantined, and 10-kilometer control areas and 20-kilometer surveillance zones have been established. [emphasis added]
