Jackie Linden reports:
Nepal’s animal health agency has confirmed a spike in new outbreaks of HPAI over the past two weeks.
So far, 11 poultry flocks have tested positive for the H5N1 virus serotype, according to official notifications to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). [emphasis added]
Following an eight-month hiatus, the virus was detected in a flock of around 24,000 laying hens in the country’s southeasternmost province, Koshi. The infection is thought to have been transmitted by either fomites, or wild birds that were previously seen near the farm.
Within a couple of days, three more outbreaks were identified and reported to WOAH. These also involved commercial layers in Koshi.
