Roy Graber reports:
If you add commercial upland gamebirds to the equation, losses extended to 201,752,650 birds.
The majority of the bird losses during the 2022-26 outbreak have affected the egg industry. In mid-February, U.S. hen and pullet losses crossed the 150 million mark.
Since that number was tabulated, an update to the APHIS website revealed that four more commercial poultry flocks in Indiana have been affected by HPAI, with all four instances also being confirmed on March 10.
Three of the cases involved commercial meat duck flocks, while the other involved a commercial meat turkey operation.
The turkey flock, located in Jay County, included 20,600 birds.
Two of the duck flocks were in Elkhart County and they collectively included 20,800 birds. The other flock was in LaGrange County, and it included 7,400 ducks. Indiana, so far in 2026, has lost 15 commercial poultry flocks to HPAI.
