November 5, 2024: Time to take Demented Donald Trump out with the garbage

HeadlineThe New Republic, 10/25/2024
Historian Douglas M. Charles noted that Trump’s rhetoric parallels that of Ku Klux Klan leader William J. Simmons, who in the early 1920s said the United States is not “a melting-pot” but “a garbage can! … When the hordes of aliens walk to the ballot box and their votes outnumber yours, then that alien horde has got you by the throat.”

How did Retiring Guy miss this business closing?  Happened 7 months ago.

Not surprising, though.  From the start, it never seemed to get enough business to survive.

Lincoln Avenue Capital of Santa Monica, California, is proposing to raze the strip mall that holds Ultrazone laser tag and other businesses for the four-story housing project offering 60 units — including 51 lower-cost units — at 680 Grand Canyon Drive on the West Side.

Now, Lincoln Avenue Capital is seeking to demolish the gray, 20,280-square-foot strip mall, built on 1.1 acres in 1985, for an L-shaped housing project with a sloped roof, also valued at about $20 million.
The strip mall is home to Ultrazone, KBS Kitchen & Baths, Aerus Electrolux and empty storefronts. Proposed housing project Lincoln Avenue Capital's proposed four-story housing project at 680 Grand Canyon Drive. Knothe Bruce Architects.
The mall is outdated and needs repairs and updating, Lincoln Avenue Capital’s application to the city says. The site’s 2023 assessment is $1.89 million.

Bro-culture sexism in the Name of the Lord (Texas edition)

There's so many miscreant preachers in Texas that the Houston Chronicle has to bundle them in a single article!  Miscreant #13.

 Headline:  Houston Chronicle, 10/21/2024
Josh Howerton, senior pastor of the sixth largest church in the Southern Baptist Convention, has driven hundreds of people away from his cultivated bro-culture congregation this year after delivering sermons in which he made a controversial joke about how women should do what their husbands tell them on their wedding night. Howerton apologized, and then faced allegations that he plagiarized that apology from Joby Martin, lead pastor of The Church of Eleven22 in Jacksonville, Fla.Other miscreants:

No Trump nostalgia here: Tiffany Koehler, Republican from one of Wisconsin's reddest counties, is voting for Kamala Harris

Headline:  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 10/25/2024
Tiffany Koehler, a Republican from Washington County who ran for the Wisconsin Assembly in 2018, also said during the call she planned to vote for Harris.
"This election is one of those moments in history where we must stand up and put our country over our party," she said, echoing the "country over party" slogan Harris has embraced during her run for president.

That was then (1953).

From chapter 51:
Like most mining-towns, Idaho Springs, Colorado, straggles along in a canyon by a stream.  The picture was taken from the steep grass- and brush-grown slope to the south of the town.  The highway here is reduced to a street, shown at left.
This is now.  The route through Idaho Springs before construction of I-70.  The town's population has remained steady:  1,769 in 1950; 1,782 in 2020.

Child pornography in the Name of the Lord (Texas edition)

There's so many miscreant preachers in Texas that the Houston Chronicle has to bundle them in a single article!  Miscreant #12.

 Headline:  Houston Chronicle, 10/21/2024
Craig Stone, a church youth director at Willowwood, was arrested on Sept. 25 and faces charges for possession of child pornography and for indecency with a child by contact, per the Dallas Morning News. In August, a parent and child told police that Stone, age 63, was "engaging in inappropriate behavior with teenagers." One male teen accused Stone of touching him inappropriately, and other teens told detectives that Stone might have sexual images of children on his computer. Detectives searched the church and Stone's home, and the pastor apparently told police that he touched one victim and had naked images of a second victim, according to the police news release.
