In mid-August, the state was declared free of avian flu.
The disease has returned with its first new case in Jay County.
Indiana State Board of Animal Health reported the detection of a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in a Jay County commercial meat duck facility on Monday.
The case, which is the 14th in Jay County in the last five years, affects a flock of 24,330. It has been quarantined.
