The turmoil and rancor in Ottawa County government has intensified as some claim “intimidation” caused the lone finalist for the county’s top leadership job to drop out.

Freed and Lower were among 19 total candidates and made the cut to become the two finalists. They were chosen by a special “executive transition” committee comprised of five county commissioners, all who are affiliated with the highly conservative political platform Ottawa Impact.
