2024 elections: Who will run in Maryland's 2nd congressional district now that Democrat Dutch Ruppersberger is not running for re-election?

A solidly Democratic seat.

CBS News, 1/26/2024
Ruppersberger's career in public service started decades ago as a seasonal police officer and lifeguard in Ocean City, and continued into the courtroom as a prosecutor. Later he entered politics as a council member and county executive in Baltimore County and eventually went to Congress for eleven terms.
Ruppersberger's retirement had been speculated and rumored for some time. He jokingly acknowledged it himself when his colleague U.S. Rep. John Sarbanes announced his own political retirement.

Jim O'Connor
Headline:  Votebeat, 1/26//2024
Jim O’Connor, chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission, sent an email to Maricopa County supervisors on Nov. 27, 2022, asking them to delay certifying the election. Maricopa County provided the email to Votebeat in response to a public records request.
“Please look over the attached and allow reason and prudence to lead you all to delay certification of your County canvass until all the facts come to light,” O’Connor wrote, asserting that he had attached evidence that the county’s voting equipment wasn’t properly certified. The Secretary of State’s Office has since provided evidence showing that the equipment was properly certified.

Ottawa County Michigan: When county government turns into a series of Looney Tunes episodes

That's because, as the three-judge panel points out, the group of commissioners did their communicating plotting before they took an oath of office, i,e., before they were officially members of the county board.
A group of Ottawa County commissioners elected in 2022 did not violate the state Open Meetings Act by communicating with each other prior to taking office, the state Court of Appeals ruled.

The three-judge panel agreed with the lower court.
“To summarize, we conclude that the trial court did not err by determining that the OMA did not apply to the Ottawa 9 before they were seated on January 3, 2023, because, up to that point, they did not constitute a public body for purposes of the OMA,” a judge wrote.  [emphasis added]

What's the matter with Iowa: Brenna Bird has turned the Attorney General's office into a clown show

HeadlineDes Moines Register, 1/25/2024
Since taking office in January 2023 after defeating incumbent Democrat Tom Miller, Iowa's first Republican attorney general in 44 years has kept busy litigating against the federal government, either joining cases brought by other conservative-leaning states or filing her own lawsuits.
Bird ran for election promising the Biden administration to "see you in court," and over her first year she's done so on topics ranging from ethanol sales to cybersecurity regulations to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
Her record, in cases that have reached a decision, is mixed, with wins in some cases as high up as the U.S. Supreme Court and proposed regulations withdrawn. Other arguments have been rejected by judges or overturned on appeal.

CES 2024: WeHead spatial video device

If you’re somewhat repulsed by the idea of an AI talking head, you’re not alone. We were, too, although that repulsion was combined with genuine fascination. It’s like ChatGPT evolved a face, showing the direction that AI and robotics are heading in. Developed by an American startup,
WeHead is a desktop device with a “face” made of four displays. It’s supposed to mimic a real person with whom you can interact. But it’s early days yet, so the interaction — according to various sources — isn’t smooth. The device had trouble isolating audio cues, leading to a response lag.

Designed to operate manually, remotely with a smartphone app, or autonomously, the zero-turn mower can reach speeds of up to 12 mph. Object detection recognizes and avoids known objects, like trees or benches, as well as stopping and alerting users via the app when encountering unexpected objects. Slated for limited release later this year, the mower will be Bobcat’s first commercially available autonomous machine.

CES 2024: Electric semi trucks

Walking into the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (the third largest convention center in the U.S., with 2 million square feet of exhibit space), the first thing I saw was the Paccar exhibit with Kenworth and Peterbilt semi tractors on display. Paccar displays a hydrogen powered Peterbilt at CES 2024.
These trucks use hydrogen fuel-cell technology to create water (H2O) as the only by-product. The prototypes displayed at the show have a range of 450 miles and require 20-30 minutes to refuel. They are currently testing on-road applications but plan to work on off-road applications in the near future
