Jackie Linden reports:
Over the past week, 11 European states have officially registered new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in their respective commercial poultry sectors. Almost without exception, the presence of the H5N1 virus serotype has been confirmed at each location.
The additional 51 outbreaks in this category bring the regional total in this category to date this year to 450 outbreaks.
One or more outbreaks have been logged in 2025 in 22 countries, according to the European Commission (EC). Its latest update of the Animal Disease Information System (November 12) covers listed animal diseases in European Union (EU) member states and selected adjacent countries.
So far this year, Hungary has recorded the most outbreaks in poultry farms (107), followed by Poland (105), Germany (100) and Italy (39).
