100 Years of Frank Sinatra: "I'm a Fool to Want You"

Sinatra recorded "I'm a Fool to Want You" on March 27, 1951, working with his long-time arranger Alex Stordahl.  The song title, of course, provides an immediate link to Ava Gardner.  Frank had become legally separated from his first wife Nancy the previous September, although he and Ava had not yet married at this time.  But an eager press kept the world up-to-date on all their moves and passions.

The song did little to reignite Sinatra's recording career.  It didn't rank among the top 30 songs of the year as determined by Billboard magazine.

On the other hand, 1951 was a stellar year for Tony Bennett, who charted 2 songs in the year-end top 30:  "Because of You" (#2) and "Cold Cold Heart" (#7).

Looks as though someone is already perfecting his crooner pose.
