A closer look at Wisconsin's population loss: Taylor County

As with many other northern Wisconsin counties, lumbering fueled the growth of Taylor County, where the population initially peaked at 18,045 in 1920.  Since then, the county experienced stretches of decline (1940 to 1970, a population loss of nearly 16%) and growth (1970 to 2010, a population gain of 13.8%).  Since the 2010 census, the county has lost an estimated 234 residents, or 1.1% of its population.

Medford is the county seat.
