Palm Beach County Library System to Replace 10-Year-Old Bookmobile Thanks to $225,000 Anonymous Donation

Crane said the $225,000 donation is one of the largest contributions ever to Friends of the Palm Beach County Library System, the non-profit group that promotes the library.

“The private donor, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was inspired to donate to the library by the example of businessman turned philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who built public library buildings through the United States in the early 20th century,’’ Crane said in a memo to county commissioners

The county currently has one bookmobile, in use since 2005. It is nearing the end of its lifespan, Crane said, “so the donation came at an ideal time.’’
