U.S. 40 Cross Section of the United States of America (Chapter 30: Victorian Elegance)

That was then (1953).

From chapter 30:
A mile east of Harmony, Indiana, just north of the highway, stands a house that may be tkan to represent much of mid-Victorian sophistication and comfort.  Built in 1872 as the home of a local doctor, it is still owned by his daughter.

This is now.  .

Google Maps

And a tip of the hat to Jim Grey for helping me pinpoint the site of the McKinley House, which is now a bed and breakfast.

Harmony is located 58 miles west/southwest of Indianapolis and 19 miles east-northeast of Terre Haute.
