Wisconsin 2024 elections: Democrat Alex Joers announces candidacy for 81st Assembly District

Alex Joers (D-Middleton) was first elected to the 79th Assembly District in November 2022.  He previously served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors (2020-2023).  As a result of redistricting, the boundaries of the 79th were shifted to include most of the far west side of Madison.

Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) has represented the 81st District since January 2015.  He is not running for re-election.

Joers, who represented a district that included Middleton, Waunakee and Madison's north side, was drawn into the same district as Verona Democrat Rep. Mike Bare after Gov. Tony Evers signed new legislative districts into state law. The shifting district lines created an open seat for the area that included much of Joers' old district, but the state representative will have to move to run in the new district.
"The people and the places that are now represented by the 81st District are close to my heart. I grew up in the area and spent most of my life here, and now we’re raising our kids here in Middleton," Joers said in a statement. "Throughout the coming months, I look forward to reconnecting with current constituents and introducing myself to future constituents."
