Cambodia reports 6th case of bird flu in human

Key findings 
  • A 49-year-old male resident of Tuol Kruos village, Trapeang Prasat district, Oddar Meanchey province, northwestern Cambodia, was confirmed positive for H5N1 avian influenza on 27 Sep 2026 by the National Institute of Public Health and the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge. 
  • This case is Cambodia's sixth confirmed human H5N1 infection of 2026; the patient is currently isolated in a local hospital receiving intensive medical care. 
  • An epidemiological investigation established that the patient raised chickens and had direct contact with sick and dead poultry; the National Institute of Animal Health and Production had confirmed H5N1 infection in the farm's poultry on 23 Sep 2026—four days before the human case was confirmed.
