Bill Cassidy won’t say what he talks to President Donald Trump about.
“I actually don't talk about private conversations that I have with the president,” the Republican senator said on a recent call with local journalists, “because if you start talking about private conversations, you don't have more private conversations.”
But oh, does he ever want Louisiana voters to know they talk.
And you know who doesn’t talk to Trump? All the people running against him in next year’s Republican primary, the ones who claim to be more MAGA than a senator who, not all that long ago, voted to convict Trump for his horrid incitement of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
This, clearly, is Cassidy's version of the lay of the land half a year into Trump’s second term.
Cassidy reminded reporters that he’s been invited to the White House seven times, and that the president signed a bill he authored to crack down on fentanyl trafficking while he stood right behind.
