Too Germanic for most Americans' tastes, Hans peaked at #476 in 1909 but quickly fell out of favor at the start of The Great War, although it remained on the baby name chart.  Not so with World War II, when it again experienced a decline in popularity disappeared for 3 years after 1945.  In 1969, it almost reached its previous peak, falling one place short.  It hasn't made the list since 1999.
