Greetings from the Hollywood Bowl

From Retiring Guy's postcard collection

Although the site had been in use for theater productions and other events since 1916, the first arched proscenium stage wasn't constructed until 1926.  The Streamline Moderne 'signature shape' of the Bowl was constructed in 1929.

The Bowl's attendance record -- 26,410 -- was set at a 1936 concert by French-American operatic soprano Lily Pons.

For safety reasons, attendance at events was limited to 5,000 during World War II.

A reflecting pool was installed at the front of the stage in 1953.  It was removed in 1972.

The Beatles played 3 concerts at the Bowl during the mid-1960s -- 1 in 1964, and 2 in 1965.
