Give credit to debutante Brenda Frazier for the rocket-like rise of this baby name.  She became a regular items in columns by Walter Winchell by 1936 (#509) and made her media frenzy of a society debut in 1938 (#244).  Two years later (#42), Dale Messick named her comic strip, "Brenda Starr, Reporter", after her.  Brenda's years among the top 20 baby names (1948-1964) correspond to the strip's period of peak popularity. The past decade has not been kind.
