Warren Pennsylvania Notables and Where They Lived (The Falconer-Smith House)

The Falconer-Smith Home

Location:  301 Market Street (at the northwest corner of West Third Avenue)

Date of construction:  1866

Style:  Italianate


Patrick Falconer was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 20, 1816.  At his uncle's encouragement, he moved to Warren County in 1836 and operated his uncle's farm, located on what is now State Hospital property, until 1860 (1).

Patrick organized a local agricultural society in 1951 and was a trustee of First Presbyterian Church, which at this time was located in the 200 block of Market Street

He married Harriet Ophelia Miller on April 3, 1838.

They had 8 children:
  1. Patrick James, born May 25, 1839; death date unknown.
  2. Robert Alenander, born June 29, 1840, died February 5, 1899
  3. Lora McIvers, born April 15, 1842; death date unknown.
  4. Ann Eliza, born June 2, 1845; died September 14, 1845.
  5. Ann Rose, born December 18, 1846; death date unknown.
  6. Harriet Ophelia, born October 11, 1849; died April 18, 1880.
  7. William Thaddeus, born June 5, 1857; died 1882.
  8. Mary Elizabeth, born July 15, 1860; died 1882.
Harriet Falconer died in Warren on January 21, 1868,

Patrick Falconer died in Saratoga Springs, New York, on July 20, 1876.
